Meet Lila It was our first time at Womb's View Center. We took the New Parents class and Breastfeeding class in our second visit. It was awesome and really helped me know why I wanted to breastfeed. Look at my breastfed baby now! All those rolls are from me! Literally and figuratively speaking those are my rolls! I already lost 25 lbs! We didn't take the time to do childbirth classes and thank god Heidi convinced us to use a doula! Labor started a week early. My water broke right after I left a friend's birthday party. Boy am I thankful it didn't happen at the party cause it was a mess! My contractions didn't start and I was worried. I called the doula and she came to meet us at our house. My husband- as wonderful as he is- was extremely grateful that we had a knowledgeable person to help. We called the doctor to let him know and spent a few hours getting my labor going. The doula helped a lot! We all packed into the car- doula and all. Those bumps caused a contraction every time and the doula talked to me the whole time. When I got to the hospital I was 5 cm!!!! I wanted some pain medication, but I decided to try a little longer without. I didn't want my baby to get all those medications too. I thought I must be crazy to deal with the pain, but something happened when I thought I couldn't take it anymore. I got really focused and started working. Kinda like when you run for a long time and suddenly your knee stops hurting and you are running like a machine. Well, that is what it felt like. I was 8 cm. I stopped wanting to quit and just wanted to get the baby out and before I knew it I was pushing. Each push meant the baby was coming and the pain mattered less. And before you knew it- she was in my arms!! She didn't breastfeed right away, but I put her to the breast and she put her mouth on it. After a few hours I got her nursing. I was unsure at first if I had enough milk but then I remembered what Heidi said about the small amount of milk the baby takes. I fed her every 2 hours and before I knew it things were going well. When I got home it hurt and I called the lactation consultant to come and help. It was just a positioning problem. We fixed that and all went well! Jeanne and Francis |
